Research Center of Remote Sensing and Geoscience is composed of four research groups including Feature of Remote Sensing Information and the Earth Source, Land Resources Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Technology and Its Application，and Microwave Remote Sensing. Now it has Laboratories of Remote Sensing Images Procession, Information System, Microwave Technology, and Field Experimental Station of Remote Sensing Observation. At present, the research center has 16 permanent scientists, including seven professors, four Ph.D. supervisors, five associate professors, four asistant professors, eight visiting professors; and also has 20 Ph.D. candidates and 15 postgraduate candidates.

The main research direction :

(1) Collection and analysis of basic remote sensing data: relying on Jingyuetan Test Station of Remote Sensing of Chinese Academy of Sciences, by means of manifold sensors (optics, microwave), carrying on in long-range dynamic field observation, providing accumulation of basic data and bases for quantitative remote sensing researches and spatial remote sensing information interpretation; and establishing web remote sensing information database.

(2) Geographic process research: on the basis of remote sensing and geographic information system, making scientific researches on the process of landscape ,vegetation ecology and flood disaster .

(3) Remote sensing application research: establishing agricultural information report system and spatial decision support system, estimating the output of main crops in Northeast China, developing agricultural remote sensing technology; doing some researches on the application of remote sensing on wetland and environment.

(4) Research on the core theory and key technology of geographic information system, such as spatial data cognition, spatial data mining, and spatial data model.
