Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you to take part in the 2st Far Eastern Conference with international participation “Transboundary Khanka Lake: Current state and prospects of development of the region”. It is the first conference with international participation devoted to the state of transboundary Khanka Lake. The specialists in different fields of science will present their research on the territory of the largest lake basin in the Far East. The integrative interdisciplinary projects based on the interaction of science, government and business organizations will help to find a solution to the stated problems and environmental threats in the region states and create predictive mathematical model of the lake hydrological regime.

Have you got any information about water content in Small Khanka Lake and Lake Khanka/ Xingkai, hydrological regime of their basins, dynamics and size of water flow at hydrotechnical systems of the coastal areas? Do you have geophysical data on the vertical movements of the Khanka Lake bottom surface and Songacha (Sungacha) River basin? If your data are available could you present them at the Conference? Your participation in the Conference is of great importance. Solution of Khanka Lake problems is our common cause!

The Conference will be held on May 14-18, 2019 at Federal Scientific Center of the East Asia Terrestrial Biodiversity Feb RAS(Vladivostok, Russia).

The Conference organizers:

Federal Scientific Center of the East Asia Terrestrial Biodiversity Feb RAS (FSCB FEB RAS)

Pacific Institute of Geography Far Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences (PIG FEB RAS)

Institute of Applied Mathematics Far Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences (IAM FEB RAS)

Institute of Water and Ecological Problems Far Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences

(IWEP FEB RAS)

Pacific Oceanological Institute Far Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences (POI FEB RAS)

Amur branch of World Wildlife Fund

Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Primorsky Administration

Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring of Primorsky Administration

Primorsky Water Resources Department of Federal Water Resources Agency

State Nature Biosphere Reserve “Khankaisky”

Border Guard Service of Federal Security Service in Primorye

The Conference goal is the analysis and general conclusion of geographical, hydrological and other data on transboundary Khanka Lake basin and draw up recommendation against the problem of flooded area as well.

The Conference task is to integrate the efforts of agencies, organizations and the public to solve the problems of water bodies in transboundary areas, as well as the collection and exchange of knowledge and results of research to create the database required when constructing a mathematical model of Khanka Lake water regime.

Please confirm your participation in the conference and ask to consider the following:

1. Participation of you and your colleagues from your organization with the report on issues of concern.

2. Possible invitation of your foreign colleagues to attend the conference.

3. Presentations of available data on hydrological, geophysical, seismological, resource status, remote sensing area and the damage caused by rises in Khanka Lake level.

4. Possible participation of your organization in co-financing conference.
