Professor Beth Middleton successfully finished her 2 month visit in NEIGAE. On early April, she conducted two academic talks which were highly appreciated by professors and students.
On 26-27,April, Beth Middleton attend the Meeting of CAS Senior International Scientists and Young Fellows, where as the presenter of the Natural Resources & Environment Group, she delivered a report on “wetland restoration potential in Sanjaing plain and Mississippi river”.
On 13-18, May, Accompanied by Dr. Jiang Ming and several PhD students, she conducted a survey along the Sanjiang Plain. On their way, they collected samples and visited Fujin Wetland Park and CAS Sanjiang wetland field station.
When they came back from Sanjiang Plain, they carried out several researches on the restorability of formerly farmed areas from the perspective of re-establishing native vegetation, and biogeochemical function,develop seed bank study to examine the potential of seed banks of farmed areas to regenerate wetland vegetation, at the same time , she also gave training to relevant scientists and students to design conduct and write their own studies.
Beth Middleton was the first CAS senior international visiting Scholar. It is believed that her visit would greatly enhance the international cooperation between NEIGAE and USGS. Professor Middleton would visit NEIGAE again later in August.
