The International Conference on Resources, Environment and Regional Sustainable Development in Northeast Asia (2014), co-sponsored by Pacific Geographical Institute (PGI) and Institute of Water and Ecology Problems(IWEP), of RAS was held at IGA June 10th ,2014.
More than 40 foreign academic experts and about 60 Chinese academic experts and researchers participated in the three-day conference where a total of 4 plenary lectures, 60 oral presentations and over 20 posters were delivered.
Lectures covered several topics in the areas of resources development, economic development, ecological and environmental change and regional sustainable development strategy within the area of China Northeastern and Russian Far -East.
Moreover, a round-table meeting was also held among Director Boris A Vorono from IWEP, Director Peter Y Baklanov from PGI and Director He, Xingyuan. They exchanged views on currently on-going reforms both in CAS and RAS and the further potential scientific research cooperation in other related areas.
During the conference, further discussions were made among scientists when they visited IGA labs and research centers. Scientists from each side reach a lot of consensus on various issues such as joint conference and project, scholar exchanging, and joint field stations establishing. And a field observation and study to Changbai Mountain was also made following the conference.
On the occasion of the opening ceremony,Director He, Xingyuan made a remark proposing that the three institutes should make great use of our comparative advantages on relative disciplines, geo – relation and decades of cooperation.
The International Conference on Resources, Environment and Regional Sustainable Development in Northeast Asia (2014), offered a unique networking opportunity for researchers from all over the world gathered in IGA. During these 3 days of lecturers, attendees discussed the latest developments in resources development, economic development, ecological and environmental change and regional sustainable development strategy research, as well as the fundamental issues surrounding the scientific challenges faced ahead. It is hoped that the conference would be an annual event and will attract more and more scientists from all over the world to attend.
