The partnership between Edith Cowan University, Australia (ECU) and the Northeast Institute of Geography and Agroecology (IGA) started in 2016, when the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed during the IGA delegation visit to ECU, led by Professor HE Xingyuan. In 2017, the collaboration was expanded with the signing of a Joint PhD Program Agreement.

The research-based partnership has been very productive, resulting in the publication of six ISI journal papers and co-supervision of two Master by Research candidates. Furthermore, Dr Yuanchun Zou and Dr Bolong Wen from IGA have worked at ECU. A/Prof Guangzhi Sun, Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) at the ECU School of Engineering, participated as a team member in the research project “Energy Efficient Water Supply to Degraded Wetlands: Technology Demonstration” (Task 5 of Theme 2); this is part of a ¥30M research project led by Professor Xianguo Lv at IGA and funded by the Key Research and Development Program of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Chinese Government. A/Prof Sun has been appointed an honorary research professor at the Institute.

In recognition of the partnership, Professor Wei Wang, ECU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (China) visited IGA in October 2017 to discuss further collaboration opportunities.

At ECU we value our partnership with IGA and we look forward to its further growth and development. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary, Professor Steve Chapman, Vice-Chancellor of Edith Cowan University sent a letter of congratulations to Professor HE Xingyuan, Director-General of IGA.
