On 28 July 2018, The 4th international Conference of Resources, Environment and Regional Sustainable Development in Northeast Asia brought together 150 participants from Russia, US and China , including 3 members of the Russia Academy of sciences and 2 members of Chinese Academy of Engineering. The conference took place in Changchun, Jilin Province, China, from 28-29 July 2018, and was hosted by Northeast Institute of Geography and Agroecology, CAS, the Pacific Institute of Geography, FEBRAS, Institute of Water and Ecology Problems, FEBRAS.
The conference concluded with the adoption of the Changchun Declaration, in which participants call for a series of actions to be taken for Amur River Basin Protection and wise use of nature resources in Northeast Asia.
In the declaration, participants call for, inter alia: incorporating Amur River Basin Protection into legal frameworks and policies; promoting scientific innovation; increasing financial allocations for Amur River Basin management; managing nature resources holistically to improve livelihoods; strengthening the capacity of Asian countries and establishing a cooperative mechanism for Amur River Basin protection and wise use of nature resources in Asia; investing in communications, education and training at the local level.
