Wetlands and Ecological Civilization was held in Changchun

On 18 August, 2018,the international conference on Wetlands and Ecological Civilization is held in Changchun. The conference is organized by Society of Wetland Scientists China Chapter and Asian Chapter , Ecological Society of China. It is the first annual meeting of China Chapter, SWS. The conference is a highlight of IGA 60th anniversary. The conference achieved a lot by the number of participants and the high quality of the presentations as well as the parallel secession and memorial activity. Prof. William Mitsch, from Florida Gulf Coast University and Beth Middleton, Chairmen of SWS attend the conference.

 

The conference attracted 400 participants from 124 institutions, including 16 keynote speech and 130 presentations. The conference follow the international tradition with 4 parallel secession which offers great opportunity for both senior scientist and postgraduate students at the same time. 

 

Heated discussions and in-depth communications on the topic of Wetland ecological process and function, Wetland restoration and management, Regional effect of wetland environmental changes& sustainable utilization of wetland resources is highly appreciate by participants all over the world which will promote the cooperation among wetland scientists

 

The fifth conference of National Wetland Science and Technology Committee was held during this conference, the committee member has discussed topics including classifying wetland as the First-Class land use type in China, and the boundary between water body and wetland.

 

On the afternoon of 18 August, Cooperation agreements between IGA and University of G?ttingen, and wetland society of Taiwan were signed. A declaration of proposing to establish an International Wetland Research League was formed during this conference. After deep communication with relative institutions, consensus was achieved that it is necessary to build an international platform for cooperation and communication, thereby promoting the international cooperation on wetland research, sharing data resource, co-culturing young wetland researchers and students.
